Best Family Photo Locations in Langley

"Where should we do the photos?" is the question every family session starts with. After ten years photographing families here, four places keep winning, each for a different reason, each with a right time to go.

Fort Langley village & riverfront

Historic storefronts, the marina docks on Bedford Channel, and the giant maples along Glover Road give you three completely different backdrops within a five-minute walk, which matters when you're working around a toddler's patience. Best in the last two hours of light. Summer weekends get busy; a weekday evening feels like you rented the town.

Campbell Valley Regional Park

Tall-grass meadows, the wooden boardwalk, and flat stroller-friendly trails. Late-afternoon backlight through the grass is the signature look. Children can run, and the photos are better because they do. By mid-October the whole meadow turns amber.

Derby Reach Regional Park

A gravel river beach with driftwood, the Fraser stretching out behind, and the widest sunset sky in Langley. This is the golden-hour spot: 7 to 8:30 on a summer evening is hard to beat anywhere in the Lower Mainland. Rubber boots earn their keep here in the wetter months.

Williams Park

A creek, little footbridges, and a huge leaf canopy. It's the shady option when July is cooking, and the colour option in mid-October when the maples go. Smaller and quieter than the regional parks, good for families who want calm.

A quick season guide

• Spring: blossom streets around Fort Langley, fresh green at Campbell Valley.
• Summer: Derby Reach in the evening. Book the 7pm slot before someone else does.
• Fall: Campbell Valley and Williams Park peak mid-October; those two weeks book fastest all year.
• Winter: the studio option, or a moody river session at Derby Reach for the brave.

What to wear out there
